This aquarel has been signed ‘nr. Du Chattel’. From the signature we learn that it is a painting after work by the famous painter Du Chattel. The ‘nr’ in the signature is an abbreviation of ‘naar’ meaning after in Dutch. Fredericus Jacobus van Rossum du Chattel (1856-1917) is a Dutch painter of, mainly, landscapes. His work has been sold, among other places, in the United States of America. In 1889 he won a price at the World Exhibitoin in Paris.
