These candlesticks are made in the style of Louis XIV (1638-1715), also known as the Sun King. The French king reintroduced classic styles and these candlesticks are an example because of their clean lines and symmetrical shape.
The candlesticks consist of three parts: the bowl that holds the candle , the middle part and the lower wide base. The middle part is solid. Because the screw thread in the connection between the lower and middle part was unscrewed, we glued this connection (so it can no longer be separated).
About the material: The candlesticks are made of cast copper. Copper is the main component of both brass and bronze. It seems that these are bronze objects: when cleaning and polishing, especially the middle part shows a pink glow.
My estimation is that these candlesticks were made in the first half of the 20th century (or perhaps the last quarter of the 19th). A beautiful robust but graceful set!
