Heiner Düsterhaus (1949, Paderborn) was trained by glass painter Enrico Zappini between 1964 and 1970, during which time he also studied drawing with Hannes Pink. He has a degree from the glass school in nearby Hadamar, where he obtained his master’s degree in 1972. Since 1972 he has been working as a glass designer in the industry, from 1978 from his own workshop. This duo of vases was made around 2000 for the company Vera Walther Glass Manufacture.
I am grateful for the contact I had with the artist. Mr. Düsterhaus taught me that these vases are the result of the “Absekn Technik”, he writes: “Bei Glas Acts es sich um alte Flaschen, who were bemalt und then im Ofen am Hals were befestigt und beim Brennprozess weich were und sich absenken.” He made these vases between 1982 and 2009. The term ‘recycle art’ can also be used for this work as it involves the artistic processing of existing objects.
