Wooden decorative table with intarsia top. Intarsia is a technique mainly used in Italy and France. Opening the table sets of music from the Swiss music box. The box (‘cylinder movement’) was made by the Swiss company MAPSA. This company, MAP S.A., was founded in 1952 in Sainte-Crox. According to the ‘Mechanical Music Digest’ MAPSA is an acronym for the names of the founders ‘Charles Monti, Rmy Aubry and Frdric Paillard and the words Socit Anonyme (the French equivalent of Corporation)’. The company is known to have sold their music systems all across Europe as well as finishing off other products with their music boxes. The table has been restored by firming the base and covering the inlay with leather.
