This concerns an Edwardian corner chair. A combination of handmade details such as the back parts and the inlaid floral motifs and machine-made parts such as the legs and frame. The style is referred to as ‘Edwardian’ for the reign of the British King Edward VII (1901-1910).
This chair is from the household of an Enschede family and has been, according to tradition, in the household for over hundred years. The auction house actually dates the chair around 1900. The chair is stable and sturdy, a new wicker seat was required for active use.
In November 2020 Albert and I rewired the chair, with the help of Rien Stuijts, the ‘stoelmatter uit Zundert’. Please see the gallery for the result! More photos of the process have been published on Facebook (Inge Broekman Bijzondere objecten en hun verhaal).
Height seat: 40 cm, height back 68.5 cm, square of the seat 40 x 40.3 cm.
