Curulic chair – sold

In the Roman time a chair with crossed legs was called a ‘curulic chair’. It is an official order: a chair was only there for the highest ranked officials. A picture is known from the early Middle Ages on which a French king sits at ‘the chair of Dagobert’, a similar model, which led to the name ‘Dagobert chair’. In the Renaissance period this model was also named a ‘Dante chair’, following the Italian poet. The back of the chair could show the coats of arms of the city or region. This model dates from the 1970s. The chair is foldable by taking the head end off.
